Nimarata Nikki Randhawa better known as Nikki Haley is a name that has become synonymous with ambition tenacity and a steely determination to break through glass ceilings. Born in 1972 to Sikh immigrants from India Haley navigated the complexities of growing up as a minority in a predominantly white Southern community. Her family clothing business Exotica International became a crucible for her work ethic and business acumen. From helping with inventory to managing finances Haley learned the art of negotiation and the satisfaction of building something from the ground up. Drawn to public service Haley entered politics in 2004 becoming the first Indian-American woman elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives. Her sharp wit and pragmatic approach quickly garnered attention propelling her through the ranks. In 2010 she defied all odds by becoming the first female and first minority governor of South Carolina shattering racial and gender barriers in a deeply conservative state.
