They are positioned in the most hazardous terrain of any combat theatre there on the front lines. They travel hundreds of kilometres while hauling supplies and equipment into hostile territory while carrying packs that easily weigh more than they do.

As the enemy can appear at any time and their plans are mostly unknown to these brave men and women, many of them find comfort in the constant roar of mortar fire. They fear the silence of the night. Army Day honours these core members of the armed services and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices they make in order to defend our homes and nation.
