240 miles to the Arabian Sea to make salt from seawater, defying the British salt monopoly. This protest highlighted
the unjust British salt tax and gained international attention.
4 Assassination: Tragically, Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist, on January 30, 1948,
in New Delhi. His death was ashock to the world, and he is remembered as a symbol of peace and nonviolence.
5 Legacy: Mahatma Gandhi's legacy continues to inspire people around the world. His methods of nonviolent resistance
have been adopted by various civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela.
Gandhi's birthday, October 2nd, is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti and is recognized as the International Day of
Non-Violence.
