Every year on April 6, the United States celebrates National Tartan Day to remember the date in 1320 when the Declaration of Arbroath (also known as the Scottish Declaration of Independence) was signed. The Declaration of Arbroath served as the inspiration for the American Declaration of Independence, and a significant number of the Founding Fathers were of Scottish ancestry (nearly half of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and nine of the 13 governors of the newly formed United States were Scottish!)
