One of the warmest and strongest bonds within families are the ones shared between siblings. The bond between a brother and sister is one that holds the test of time. Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of that sacred bond between a brother and sister. There are many legends on the origin of Raksha Bandhan. But the essence of this day, lies in the name itself - the bond of protection. On this day, sisters tie a Rakhi around their brothers wrists - as a token of their love and protection. And in return, the brothers shower them with gifts, sweets and money. Raksha Bandhan is also known as Rakhi Purnima, Saluno, and Rakri, and is celebrated every year on Purnima full moon day of Shravan month as per the Hindu calendar. Happy Raksha Bandhan. One of the largest democracies in the world, India will celebrate its 74th Independence Day on 15th of August, 2022. This day marks the historic occasion when the country finally broke the shackles of oppression and gained independence from the British empire in the year 1947.
The British rule was established in India through East India Company in the year 1757 and the Company exercised control over India for 100 years. The fight for Aazadi ,freedom from the British Raj truly began with the Indian Revolt of 1857 which is also known as the Indian Mutiny. The British played the trick of divide and rule policy as slowly, India came under direct British rule as the Britishers gradually strengthened their hold over the nation.
To free the nation from the shackles of the British Raj, several freedom fighters went through unimaginable pain and sacrificed their lives for the freedom of India. Some of the greatest freedom fighters that our nation has ever witnessed include but are not limited to Neta Ji Subash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Mangal Pandey, Mahatma Gandhi, Rani LakshiBai, Sarojini Naidu, Chandra Shekhar Azad and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. They displayed immense courage and bravery and revolted against the British empire to demand freedom for their beloved nation. The non-violent and civil disobedience movement led by Matama Gandhi along with other fighters of India constrained the British to leave India.
Hence, Independence Day is celebrated with utmost fervour, zest and a spirit of patriotism to mark the innumerable sacrifices of the freedom fighters of India and honour the fact that we are living in a free India. Throughout the country, flag-raising ceremonies are conducted and special programs are hosted, focusing on honouring the freedom fighters.

If the left half of the brain controls the right half of the body then only left handed people are in the right mind.
Left-Handers are not different because they are unique; They are unique because they are different.
Left handers don’t just write differently, we also think differently.
I scan the room. Catherine is writing quickly, her light brown hair falling over her face. She is left-handed, and because she writes in pencil her left arm is silver from wrist to elbow.
Lefthanders International Day was created to raise
awareness and celebrate sinistrality and to know the advantages and disadvantages of being left-handed in a predominantly
right-handed world. It is created to celebrate left-handed people uniqueness and differences. This Day also spreads awareness on
issues faced by left-handers, for e.g. the special needs importance for left-handed children, and the likelihood
for left-handers to develop schizophrenia.
Facts To Know About Elephants
There are two species of elephants, African and Asian, and while they are similar in physiology, they are too biologically different to interbreed .In a further corroboration that African elephants are comprised of two different species (forest and savannah), a new scientific finding discloses that ancient giant elephants living 1.5 million to 100,000 years ago across Eurasia (before eventually becoming extinct) are more closely related to the African forest elephants of today than the forest elephants are related to African savannah elephants! Prior to this finding, most experts agreed that the ancient species of giant elephant was most closely linked to the Asian elephant.
The Asian elephant is endangered with less than 40,000 remaining worldwide.
The African elephant (Forest and Savannah) is threatened with less than 400,000 remaining worldwide.
Asian Elephant Range
Asian elephants range in 13 countries. In the past 50 years, the Asian elephant range has shrunk by over 70%.
In Asia there are approximately 70,000 people to 1 elephant across their range.
There were over 100,000 elephants in Thailand at the beginning of last century. There are less than 4,000 today.
The escalation of poaching, habitat loss, human-elephant conflict and mistreatment in captivity are just some of the threats to both African and Asian elephants. Working towards better protection for wild elephants, improving enforcement policies to prevent the illegal poaching and trade of ivory, conserving elephant habitats, better treatment for captive elephants and, when appropriate, reintroducing captive elephants into natural, protected sanctuaries are the goals that numerous elephant conservation organizations are focusing on around the world.
World Elephant Day asks you to experience elephants in non-exploitive and sustainable environments where elephants can thrive under care and protection. On World Elephant Day, August 12, express your concern, share your knowledge and support solutions for the better care of captive and wild elephants alike.
